Part 2

Part 2

THE TEST OF DRIVING ABILITY

Part two is the test of driving ability. The test is in two sections; the first section is your ability to read a number plate at a distance of 27.5 meters, the second section is the test of driving technique.

Obviously it makes sense to check your ability to read a number plate before you attend the test. If you cannot read the number plate then the driving part of the test does not take place and you will have failed.

The practical driving test assesses your ability to drive to a very high standard and will last for approximately one hour. The route chosen will deal with as many varying traffic conditions as possible. This will include where possible; motorways, dual carriageways and roads that carry fast moving and heavy traffic, and also a range of road and traffic conditions in urban and rural locations.

On these roads you must demonstrate a high level of competence. As well as road procedure you will be tested on your ability to manoeuvre the car e.g. various reversing exercises into junctions and parking bays. Detailed information on these can be provided in the booklet "Your Road to Becoming an ADI".

You are allowed only six driver faults to pass the test. If you commit more than six faults you will not be successful. Equally, if you commit one serious or dangerous fault.  You will not be successful.

PART 2 TEST OF DRIVING ABILITY

As we believe that one-to-one training is the most effective, we conduct individual training to prepare you for this high level driving test. This means you pay for what you get - full use of my time and expertise.  No car-sharing or sitting in the back merely "observing".

The amount of training you need (as with any practical skill) will depend entirely on:

·         the current level of your driving skills

·         whether any major changes need to be made to your driving style

Your driving needs to be at a consistently high standard. You therefore need to allow time to practise any adjustments which you may need to make to your style.

The national pass rate for this part of the exam is around 45%. You therefore need to be prepared to have sufficient training to reach the standard required.
